The Bhakti Movement

The Bhakti Movement: In the 6th century A.D., the Bhagavata Purana placed the concept of bhakti on a very high pedestal. The word ‘Bhakti’ means devotion to God. The Bhakti Movement was not new, its doctrine had its origin in the Bhagavadgita and the Upanishads. The Bhaktas of God did not believe in any sort of caste distinction. They advocated love and devotion to God and discarded all sorts of rituals and ceremonies.
