What is Meiosis? Meiosis is a reductional division that takes place in the reproductive cells during the formation of gametes or spores. Meiosis occurs in the reproductive organs like testes, ovaries in animals, and in the essential parts (stamen and carpel) of flowers. Meiosis results in the formation of four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes as found in the parental cell. This helps in maintaining the stability of species.
