Differences Between Spermatogenesis And Oogenesis:
The following are the points of Differences Between Spermatogenesis And Oogenesis.
Spermatogenesis | Oogenesis |

It occurs in the seminiferous tubules of testes. | It occurs in the follicle cells of ovaries. |
It is completed in testes. | It is completed in the female genital tract. |
Begins only at puberty. | Begins before birth in the foetus. A baby girl is born with a set number of primary oocytes already in prophase I stage. |
After maturity, it is a continuous process and occurs all the time. | Discontinuous process, only one egg matures in about 28 days. |
Here, male sex cells called sperms are formed. | Here, a female sex cell called ovum is formed. |
Each primary spermatocyte divides by meiosis and forms four haploid spermatozoan. | Each primary oocyte divides by meiosis and forms only one haploid ovum. |
Equal cytoplasmic divisions during meiosis I and meiosis II and no formation of polar bodies. | Unequal cytoplasmic divisions during meiosis I and meiosis II and hence the formation of three polar bodies. |
Spermatocytes have normal nucleus and cytoplasm. | Oocytes are rich in RNA, ATP, enzymes, yolk, cytoplasm, a large nucleus with the large nucleolus. |
The growth phase of spermatogenesis is of short duration and there is no synthesis of yolk (vitellogenesis). | The growth phase of oogenesis is of longer duration and there is a synthesis of yolk (vitellogenesis). |
Sperms are minute, yolkless and motile. | Ovum is large, rounded, non-motile with or without the yolk. |

Spermatid undergoes spermiogenesis to get transformed into a sperm. | No such stage after the formation of ootid or ovum takes place. |
