6 Short Paragraphs That Teach Life Lessons:

Manners Maketh Man or Good Manners:

Good manners make life worth living. They earn a person respect and dignity. They show not only the present worth of a person but also his future greatness. They distinguish a civilized person from a beast. However, manners are learnt in society. We must learn to be humble and cool-tempered. We should learn to help the needy, be respectful to ladies and the aged. We should cultivate table manners. We must take our turn in a queue. We must offer her a seat if a lady is standing. We must not damage public property. We should not pluck flowers from public parks. We should not tear pages from library books. Cultivation of these manners will surely win us respect.

Value of Discipline:

Discipline is the most indispensable quality of life. It is in fact the greatest law of nature. It is the symbol of civilization. It is the backbone of character. Literally, it means learning a code of conduct. It means a training that teaches self-control, obedience, cooperation and orderliness. Discipline plays an important role in school, family, factory, military, office and nature. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West. The earth continues moving around the sun. At the social and national level, discipline means mutual help and cooperation. Discipline is not contrary to freedom. Freedom is not the law of the jungle. It is regulated behaviour. Discipline is thus a code of rules applicable to all spheres of life.

Punctuality:

Time waits for none. Punctuality is, therefore, the highest quality. Punctuality means to be on time. It means to be ready before the actual time. Punctuality does not mean that we should reach the station at nine if the train leaves at nine. Punctuality means we should be there at the station well in time to buy a ticket, to find a suitable berth and be comfortable. This applies equally to situations in life. It is the only key to success. The importance of punctuality has increased all the more due to progress in civilization. If we do not care for the time, it will kick us back. Time is running very fast. We must catch it by the forelock.

Importance of Hobbies:

A hobby helps us the most in utilizing our spare time properly. There are various kinds of hobbies such as photography, stamp-collecting, coin-collecting, gardening, carpentry, painting and singing. In fact, anything one does with interest is called a hobby. If you love to swim, it can be a very useful hobby. Reading books is another important hobby. Hobbies like stamp-collecting, coin-collecting, drawing pictures, photography, playing on musical instruments are very expensive. But books can be read in the library even. Luckily, we have a small plot of land on the front side of our houses. I have adopted gardening as my hobby. I grow fruit plants and vegetables in that plot. It gives me change. In fact, life without a hobby is quite dull.

An Ideal Student:

An ideal student is one who is ideal in everything. He is an embodiment of virtues. He is conscious of his duties and responsibilities. He is a pride of the school. He is an honour to his family. He is an asset to his country. The ideal student considers his school as the temple of learning. He respects his teachers. He is a knowledge-seeker. But, he is not a bookworm. He understands the value of games. He knows well that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. So, he takes exercise daily. He takes part in extra-curricular activities. He learns the art of speech. He maintained proportion in life. He observes discipline. He is polite, kind and sympathetic. He is full of tolerance. He respects the elders, believes in simple living and high thinking.

Sportsmanship:

Sportsmanship means team spirit. Team spirit means working in cooperation for the achievement of a common goal. Team spirit teaches cooperation, discipline, punctuality, obedience and so on. So achieving goals through cooperative and disciplined efforts means sportsmanship. Achieving a goal is not the monopoly of a particular sportsman. One is to see how the goal can be achieved and not who achieves it. One must act in the right way to win victory for the team. The game is played not for victory or defeat. A sportsman should not lose his head in victory. Not should he feel depressed in case of defeat. A sportsman is always disciplined. He should never use unfair means to win a victory. Sportsmanship is the greatest quality of life. Life is a game and we are the players. We should face life in the spirit of sportsmanship.
