Tit For Tat

Tit For Tat:

Once there lived a fox in a jungle. He was very cunning. He made friends with a crane. One day he invited his friend to dinner. The crane accepted the invitation. When the crane called on the fox, he received his friend with open arms. He served soup in a flat dish. As the crane had a long beak, he couldn’t eat anything. The fox licked the dish clean and enjoyed the fun. The crane felt small but made up his mind to pay the fox in the same coin. He thanked the fox and requested him to return the visit. The next day, the fox came to dinner with the crane. He served rice in a long-necked jar. The fox couldn’t eat anything. He only licked the outer part of the jar and remained as hungry as ever. The crane enjoyed a hearty meal. The fox felt ashamed and never played such a trick again. In this way, this story gives us a clear indication that “as you sow, so shall you reap”. It is rightly said, “Happiness comes by sowing and not by reaping.”

OR

A fox and a crane lived close by in a forest. They were friends. One day the fox invited the crane to dinner. He wanted to make fun of his friend, the crane. He prepared soup and served it in a broad flat dish. Both the friends started having dinner. The fox licked the soup with his tongue at a very quick pace, but the crane with its long beak couldn’t take even a drop of the soup. The fox praised his own preparation of the soup and asked his friend how he liked it. The crane feigned to have enjoyed the soup to his heart’s content. The fox licked the whole of the soup, but the crane went without having the soup. The next day the crane invited his friend, the fox, to dine with him. He boiled rice and served it in a long narrow-necked jar. The long beak of the crane could reach even the bottom of the jar. So he had a good feast while the fox could not even reach the rice. He felt small and had to go hungry.
